Description

Conservation project commenced near Colac Bay, adjoining Lake George Wildlife Reserve, in 2009. Water from site flows into Lake George, Southland's largest coastal lake.

Current involvement

Family and friends.

Natural regeneration is occurring with broadleaf and pittosporum emerging through manuka.
Jointed rush extends to the edge of nearby Lake George (Uruwera).
Insect life abounds, with dragonflies being commonly seen.
Common skinks are well fed on plentiful insect life.
Kereru feast on the broom when it flowers in the spring.
Flax flowers provide good nectar source for tui and bellbird.
