NZERN Spring Field Day 2005

Bus Trip to South Otago. The stops included Wangaloa; Telford; Otanomomo DoC Reserve; Gardner Wetland; Awakiki DoC Reserve.

Kaitangata. Arne Cleland of Pukerau Nursery tells about the restoration of the Wangaloa Coal Mine.
Wangaloa. Rows of natives planted amongst the gorse will provide seed source for natural regeneration over time.
Otanomomo Reserve. Ken Mason, Otago Forest and Bird, describes the weed control programme for this reserve near Telford Polytech.
Gardner's Wetland. This area adjacent to the Southern Scenic Route is protected in perpetuity under QEII Open Space Covenant.
Awakiki Reserve. A magnificent totara stands in this DoC reserve, estimated to be well over 1,000 years old.
Brent Gardner explains the wetland restoration they have been involved in on their farm.
