Description

Education of our clients on our Jet Boat trip, to trap Stoats and Rats help the bird life in their fight against these predators. We have 300 traps out in the areas along the South Coast track from Wairaurahiri to the track start at Track Burn, as well as a trap line over the Hump Ridge Track that are checked monthly by the team. The Hump Track has also been able to hire a trap checker and track maintenance worker through the generous sponsorship of the trap line.

Current involvement

Wairaurahiri Jet, Department of Conservation, Environment Southland, Land Care trust, sponsors

The pristine Wairaurahiri environment. An apparent paradise.
Johan removes a stoat from the trap.
An explanation is given to those on the journey about the decimation that stoats cause to the birdlife in the area and why they need to be trapped.
Another stoat bites the dust. Lake Hauroko in background.
You can help this project by donating a stoat trap.
