If you’re dealing with weeds in your restoration project (and who isn’t?) then come along to the Southland Community Nursery to find out the latest techniques to help you in the weed battle. Topics covered: Weedbusters and what it can do for you. How to bust weeds and how you could do more. What the experts know that may help you. Available funding. OLG Working Bee at Bushy Point

Join Otatara Landcare Group members in their monthly maintenance of Bushy Point. The Bushy Point restoration project is the main project of the Otatara Landcare Group. Large areas of revegetation have been undertaken, some in conjunction with the Living Legends project. Ongoing maintenance is mainly undertaken by volunteers. So if you have the time, an hour or ten minutes - we’ll be pleased to see you. 1pm-3pm enter from Bryson Road entrance.

Forest and Bird Southland Trip to Home Creek

Home Creek just south of Manapouri has been an annual field trip for Forest and Bird for many years. Home Creek is the property of the Waiau Trust and over the last ten years has changed from an area dominated by exotic grasses to one showing much natural character, thanks to the effort of Edith Jones and her many helpers. Join Forest and Bird on their annual trip to the area, leaving Southland Museum at 9.30am or meeting at the Home Creek car park, turn off just south of Manapouri, at 11.00am. Lunch will be at the Balloon Loop where Edith will explain about the weed issue there of cotoneaster. After lunch we will head to the DOC Wilderness Reserve, the area of bog pine on the main road out of Te Anau, where heather and wilding pines are a problem. Mid Dome Wilding Pine Working Bee

Spend the day helping remove wilding pines from Mid Dome. You will need to be reasonably fit and wear suitable footwear and clothing for a day in the mountains. 4WD transport and lunch will be provided. Registrations essential as spaces are limited.
