September • Gore Forest Restoration, Hamilton Park

NZERN Winter Field Day 2003

12 June 2003

Bus Trip to Western Southland. The stops included Te Wai Korari, Riverton; McGregor Park, Nightcaps; Te Waiau Mahika Kai Trust, Jericho; Home Creek, Manapouri; Dave Milligan Park, Dipton.

McGregor's Park in Nightcaps restored from a willow dominated environment. Eleanor Peneha drove the restoration project that now sees natives along the Wairio Stream.
Te Waiau Mahika Kai Trust, Jericho The lunch stop gave a chance to hear about the long term vision for this magnificent shrubland valley.
Home Creek, a wetland area purchased for protection by the Waiau Trust. Edith Jones spearheaded restoration plantings here from 2000.
Dave Milligan Park at West Dipton has two areas of native plantings. Southland Farm Forestry and Men of the Trees were involved in this one, well established 10 years on.
