2020 SERN Spring Field Day
SERN Spring Field Day – Saturday 7th November – Exploring Eastern Southland
9.00am – bus will leave Southland Museum, Queens Park.
9.35am – bus stop (but not get off) at the DOC restoration planting trials on Hansen Rd
9.45am – WLG Gravel Pit stop – talks from DOC, iwi and Whakamana te Waituna Trust on restoration work going on in the Waituna catchment.
10.45am – drive on to lower Mataura
11.15am – O’Neills Bush stop – ES – outcomes for small forest remnants; biocontrol for pest plants, predator control and restoration plantings.
12.30pm – on to Fortrose Estuary for lunch stop (Fortrose Hall if weather not good).
1.15pm – drive on to Slope Point
1.35pm – Edith Jones property, Slope Point. Overview of property from Edith and others. Walk to dune lake.
3.40pm – start drive back to Invercargill.
5.00pm – return to Southland Museum.
The goal of SERN is to celebrate the good things going on out there in Southland and to let people know about them, along with a chance to learn and be encouraged by networking with others doing similar work. Thanks to Environment Southland for sponsoring the bus cost, meaning there is no charge to attend this day. Please remember to bring your own lunch and refreshments for the day. There will be some walking so heavy footwear/gumboots are recommended, depending on the weather.
