Workshop Description
This workshop is aimed at beginners who wish to learn basic botany and those who want to learn more about identifying Southland’s native plants.
The workshop is based on the New Zealand Plant Conservation Network (NZPCN) teaching resource “Introduction to Plant Life in New Zealand” but concentrating on Southland species.
The full NZPCN course is a 2 day course. This workshop is covered in one day with follow up “special topic” workshops available by request.
There are no assessments or exams! This workshop is intended as an introduction to the magical world of native plants, to give you a basic understanding of botanical terms, plant characteristics and helpful resources to spark your interest to learn more. It should be fun!
The Venue
The venue for this workshop is the Southland Community Nursery Education Centre, set in a spectacular native setting of mature kahikatea forest and wetland restoration area. There will be a good amount of outside tuition taking advantage of the venue. The Southland Community Nursery is a working native plant nursery which is available for workshop participants to use thereafter to further their learning.
