Forest & Bird - Waihopai Walk & Thomsons Bush

Wednesday, December 09, 2009

Thomsons Bush is the most signifcant forest remnant in Invercargill City. Several years ago the Invercargill City Council's Parks & Reserves developed a management plan for the area and Robin Pagan, Parks Manager, will tell us about the restoration work that is going on. Following this, we will walk along the south Waihopai Stream, checking out the Salford School's native plantings, then on to the Waihopai Dam. Here Environment Southland and several schools have been involved in wetland plantings. The return walk will be along the north side of the Waihopai Stream. If you would like to join us then meet on the east side of Queens Drive outside the entrance to eastern Thomsons Bush at 7.00pm. For further details, email g.munro@woosh.co.nz.
